Ltd. “Salaspils Siltums” is the first Latvian enterprise that has obtained the prestigious "GLOBAL DISTRICT ENERGY CLIMATE AWARD".

Once in two years European, North American and Asian district energy companies compete for this pristigious award, presenting outstanding achievements and unique, innovative projects. The award was presented for the first time in 2009. In nine years, 120 applications were submitted for evaluation from the USA, Canada, Finland, China, France, Denmark and other countries. Only the five best projects are awarded. This year, among them - a company from Salaspils.

The municipal company Salaspils Siltums was awarded in the category "Modernization". The company's success has been noticed and recognized not only in Latvia and Europe but also worldwide. This was achieved due to an innovative approach to work, the use of the latest technologies and the courage to pioneer in this field.

In a record time, Salaspils Siltums has grown from an ordinary post-Soviet boiler house to a world-class heating company. A wide scaled modernization of the district heating system was carried out, which made it possible to reduce natural gas consumption by replacing it with a local, renewable energy source - wood chips. As a result of the measures taken, the company has been able to significantly reduce heat losses while reducing the negative impact on the environment.

Raimons Čudars, the chairman of Salaspils District Council said: “Salaspils Siltums is an example of the fact that municipal companies can be energetic, purposeful and efficient, that they can constitute the example for others by implementing innovative technologies. We are proud of our company both in Latvia and on an international scale.”

The enterprise has ambitious plans for the future. In 2018 "Salaspils Siltums" is planning to install a solar collector with a heat storage tank, which would allow the usage of solar energy in thermal energy production. Currently, the project has been submitted for approval for co-financing from the EU Structural Funds.
